U.S. Air Force Challenge Coins
The Air Force challenge coin has been a tradition for decades. Thought to originate in the Army Air Corps during World War I, challenge coins have come to represent pride and camaraderie in 1000's of military and non-military organizations.
Each Air Force challenge coin depicts either the United States Air Force or of one of its units or divisions. As with other branches, custom holds that the recipient of an Air Force challenge coin carry it with them at all times. When "challenged", one must produce their Air Force coin immediately – or else buy a round of drinks for the challenger and for others who present their coins.
Today, Air Force challenge coins are frequently awarded to USAF personnel upon entering a specific unit. Air Force challenge coins are also used to commemorate special occasions, or simply to serve as a reminder of one's service.
