Criteria:
The AFEM is awarded for participation in military operations not covered by a specific war medal. Service members who earned the AFEM for service in Vietnam between July 1, 1958 and July 3, 1965, may elect to receive either the Vietnam Service Medal or the AFEM. However, no Service member maybe issued both medals for service in Vietnam.
